Dear CES members and friends

This is a friendly reminder that our next CES public forum will be held this coming Wednesday evening ie  the 21st  September at 7.30 pm.

Our Speaker: Dr Helen Szoke, is CEO of Oxfam, Australia.  Helen is a leading thinker and advocate for international development, human rights, gender and race discrimination. She has previously served as Federal Race Discrimination Commissioner and as the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner.

Her Topic will be "Strategy, Not Charity: Why We Need Effective Aid Now"

Why does Australia contribute overseas aid?  Is it because “giving to poor and developing countries is just the right thing for a rich nation to do”?  Or is there an argument that aid is a powerful strategy to combat rising global inequality and climate instability?  Can it contribute to lasting peace?

Chair: Bishop George Browning

Venue: Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, Corner Kings Ave and Blackall St, Barton

Donation: $5 requested to cover costs.  Supper will be provided.

There is no need to RSVP or book – just come along.

Publicity:  Click here to see the flyer for this event.  A4 flyer.  If you can distribute this in any way, it would be most helpful.
