Uniting Church in Australia

"Social Justice statements"

At its inaugural Assembly in 1977, the Uniting Church in Australia issued a Statement to the Nation which makes very clear its commitment to social justice. In addition, the 1997 Assembly issued an Invitation to the Nation setting out the values to which it believed Australia should aspire.

Support given by the CES to Australian Nursing Federation
There has been a lot in the news recently about Australia’s capacity to support its ageing population into the future. You may also be aware of the ‘Campaign for Care of Older Workers’ commenced in 2009. Supported by faith based aged care providers with Anglicare Australia’s Deputy Director, Roland Manderson, the contact person, this campaign was kicked off with letters to the Prime Minister and other politicians seeking crucial reforms.
But our current aged care system needs help too, right now. It seems fairly obvious that for quality aged care, we need quality staff who enjoy good pay and conditions. The CES has written to the federal government in support of the Australian Nursing Federation’s campaign for mandatory staffing levels and targeted funding for wages in aged care.
